LINCOLN CENTER 1968

Repeating the same general idea employed for the City Center Revival Season four years earlier, the producers of the 1968 summer season at the New York State Theater at Lincoln Center offered on its playbill cover an artist’s rendition of the theater complex in which the work was being performed, rather than a photo or drawing more relevant to the work. However the simple addition of the musical's title under the otherwise stark drawing elegantly brings together the event and the venue.

The cover design of the souvenir program repeated the now-seemingly-inevitable insignia of the running sweethearts. Evidently, and possibly for the first time, neither silhouettes borrowed from the film nor performers borrowed from the original cast would suit the occasion; the subjects of this photo are none other than the leads of the production being offered, Victoria Mallory and Kurt Peterson.
